The White Countess

In 1930s Shanghai, a nightclub that doesn't exist yet is already named for a woman. Todd Jackson (Ralph Fiennes), a blind American former diplomat, wants Sofia Belinskya (Natasha Richardson) at the center of it, though she is a Russian countess living on whatever the exile has left her. James Ivory follows Sofia as she decides whether to become someone else's idea of her.
