Novalyne Price (Renée Zellweger), a schoolteacher in 1930s Texas, wants to become a writer, and she wants someone who takes writing as seriously as she does. A mutual friend introduces her to Robert E. Howard (Vincent D'Onofrio), the pulp author whose stories fill the magazines, and their talks of ideas and imagination start to feel like courtship. Dan Ireland, in his first film as director, lets the two of them talk.
