The Widow Couderc

La veuve Couderc (Simone Signoret) is a middle-aged widow who runs a farm alone, and she takes in Jean Lavigne (Alain Delon), a young drifter who turns up looking for work. Pierre Granier-Deferre sets their days in a rural France that looks worn and grainy. When her young niece Félicie (Ottavia Piccolo) comes to stay, the quiet understanding between the widow and Jean begins to shift.
