The Widow of Saint-Pierre

Neel Auguste (Emir Kusturica) has been sentenced to the guillotine, but Saint-Pierre in 1850 has no guillotine and no executioner, so the island simply waits for both to arrive. The captain (Daniel Auteuil) is made to guard him, and his wife Pauline (Juliette Binoche) asks that the prisoner be given work and a bit of dignity instead of a cell. Patrice Leconte keeps the captain at the center, a soldier whose love for her pulls him toward disobeying his orders.
