The Black Rebels Motorcycle Club roll into Wrightsville, a small California town, looking to raise hell. Their leader Johnny Strabler (Marlon Brando) takes a liking to Kathie (Mary Murphy), the daughter of the local sheriff, Harry Bleeker (Robert Keith), just as a rival club led by Chino (Lee Marvin) pulls in too. Benedek's 1953 film sets two gangs and one nervous town on the same street, and the sheriff has few men to keep them apart.
