“What was the most eloquent word uttered in the language of the desert?”

Willard Holmes (Ronald Colman) arrives in a Southwestern desert community to build an irrigation system, and he soon finds himself competing with the cowboy Abe Lee (Gary Cooper) for Barbara Worth (Vilma Banky), the rancher's daughter. Henry King made this silent Western in 1926 from Harold Bell Wright's novel. The land is dry, and its people watch the ditch crews as the work begins.
