The Winslow Boy

(1948)Directed by Anthony Asquith117 minDrama

A boy of fourteen is expelled from the naval academy in pre-WWI England, accused of stealing a postal order. His father, Arthur Winslow (Cedric Hardwicke), demands a trial, and Catherine Winslow (Margaret Leighton) watches the family's savings and standing drain into a public fight. Anthony Asquith keeps nearly all of it inside the Winslow house, where the arguments stay quiet and the manners hold.
