The Wishing Tree

Marita (Lika Kavzharadze) comes to a small village in Georgia to live with her aunt, a girl new to the place and to everyone in it. She falls for Gedia (Joseph Jachvliani), a poor young lad, while her relatives set about finding her a rich local husband. Tengiz Abuladze, adapting Giorgi Leonidze's short stories, gives the village its own faces, with Gedia, his hands empty, set against the men who have money.
