Dorothy (Dorothy Dwan) is a Kansas farm girl raised by Aunt Em (Mary Carr), and she does not know yet that she is a princess. Larry Semon, who also directed, plays a farmhand who later turns up in Oz disguised as the Scarecrow, with Oliver Hardy as the Tin Woodsman. When the tornado lifts her off the farm, Dorothy has only a hired hand and her own nerve to get her through a country that does not know her.
