A tornado lifts Dorothy (Judy Garland) out of Kansas and sets her down in a magical world, where she starts along the yellow brick road toward the Wizard. Victor Fleming's film gives her three companions on the way, a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a Tin Man (Jack Haley) and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), each hoping the Wizard can give them the one thing they lack. None of them has met before, and by the time the road ends they're looking out for each other.
