“Her reign begins.”

General Nanisca (Viola Davis) drills a new class of recruits to join the Agojie, the all-female regiment guarding the West African kingdom of Dahomey in the 1820s. Among them is Nawi (Thuso Mbedu), a young woman with raw talent and a will no one has yet tested, while Izogie (Lashana Lynch) shows her how to fight. Gina Prince-Bythewood fills the training grounds with bodies in motion, and Nanisca watches every one of them.
