In a fairy-tale kingdom of talking animals, the cat Pero (Susumu Ishikawa) sets out to help the weak, and rescuing one mouse makes him the most hunted cat in the land. Dim-witted mice chase him until he meets Pierre (Toshiko Fujita), a young miller's boy, and the two go looking for fortune, and then for Princess Rose (Rumi Sakakibara). Kimio Yabuki, working at Toei Animation, drives the story with song, slapstick and swashbuckling.
