The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm

(1962)Directed by George Pal, Henry Levin140 min · GFantasy, Family, Music, Comedy
“WONDERFUL THRILLS! ADVENTURE! ROMANCE!”

Wilhelm Grimm (Laurence Harvey) wants to write a book people will enjoy, but the volumes he and his brother Jacob (Karlheinz Böhm) turn out are dry and scholarly. So he starts collecting the tales villagers pass along by word of mouth, and the film acts out three of them, including "The Cobbler and the Elves." Henry Levin directs, George Pal supplies the stop-motion, and it all rests on the plain belief that a story told aloud is worth putting on paper.
