The Working Class Goes to Heaven

(1971)Directed by Elio Petri113 minDrama

In an Italian factory in 1971, Lulù Massa (Gian Maria Volonté) works piece rate and is proud of being the fastest man on the line. After an accident costs him a finger, he starts attending political meetings and listening to the revolutionary groups outside the gates. Elio Petri shoots the factory floor in grainy, documentary-style close quarters, so the noise and the pace of the work stay in the frame.
