The World in His Arms

(1952)Directed by Raoul Walsh104 minAdventure, Romance
“A salty sea captain, a beautiful Russian countess, and the love that would span an ocean.”

Captain Jonathan Clark (Gregory Peck), a boisterous sea captain working the Pacific Coast around 1850, has a plan to buy Alaska from the Russians, if they don't kill him first. Raoul Walsh sends him up against Countess Marina Selanova (Ann Blyth), a Russian noblewoman, and a rival skipper, Portugee (Anthony Quinn). The facts leave the sea and the ships to the imagination, so the picture closes on Clark himself, loud and sure of the deal he means to make.
