The Wreck of the Mary Deare

(1959)Directed by Michael Anderson105 minAction, Adventure, Crime, Mystery, Thriller
“The Saga of the Derelict, Mary Deare... the strange secret she carried... the desperate voyage and plot to sink her!”

Gideon Patch (Gary Cooper) is a merchant marine officer with a ruined name, and he wants it back badly enough to stay aboard his sinking cargo ship. He insists the vessel was deliberately scuttled, and he means to prove it from inside the hull as the water rises. Michael Anderson, working from Eric Ambler's screenplay, sets John Sands (Charlton Heston) and an official inquiry against that claim, and a man's good name depends on whether anyone believes him.
