The Yellow Handkerchief

“Three complete strangers embark on a road-trip to Hokkaido.”

Yusaku Shima (Ken Takakura) walks out of prison after serving time for murder, with one place left to go: the home of the wife he hasn't seen in four years. On the way through Hokkaido he ends up in a car with two strangers, Kinya Hanada (Tetsuya Takeda) and Akemi Ogawa (Kaori Momoi). If a yellow handkerchief hangs at the window, she wants him back. Yoji Yamada, who made the Tora-san comedies, lets the trip run at the pace of the car.
