Thérèse
“The fate of a woman.”
In the 1920s, a rural French family marries off its young people to keep the land together, and Thérèse Desqueyroux (Audrey Tautou) becomes the wife of Bernard (Gilles Lellouche), a landowner who is polite, dull and entirely content. Claude Miller, adapting François Mauriac's 1927 novel, keeps her at the edge of every room, in a house that expects nothing of her but patience. Thérèse says little and gives no sign of what she wants, and the quiet is costing her.
