Thérèse Raquin
Thérèse Raquin (Simone Signoret) and her lover Laurent (Raf Vallone) believe they have gotten away with it after her husband Camille falls from a speeding train. Marcel Carné moves the story through Lyon, where the pair must now live alongside a blackmailer's demands and the mute stare of Camille's mother, Madame Raquin. Thérèse is the one who watches the doorway and flinches at each knock, waiting for the law, or her own nerve, to give way.
