Thevar Magan

Why would a young man with a London education and a plan for a chain of restaurants in Chennai get pulled back to a village? Sakthivel (Kamal Haasan) returns to India with his own ambitions, and his father, the chieftain Periya Thevar (Sivaji Ganesan), has other hopes for him. Bharathan sets the son's wish to leave against the father's wish that he stay and serve the villagers, and the film treats it as a question of what a son owes the people who raised him.
