They Made Me a Criminal

“I am a fugitive! I am hunted by the mob! I am wanted by the cops! I am forgotten by decent women!”

Johnnie Bradfield (John Garfield), a boxer, wakes up convinced he killed a man while drunk, and he runs. He changes his name to Jack Dorney and keeps moving while Det. Monty Phelan (Claude Rains) stays on his trail. Busby Berkeley directs a story where every stranger might be a cop, and Johnnie is left with a name that isn't his and a fear he can't put down.
