“The future is here!”

A war that begins at Christmas in Everytown does not end for decades, and it leaves plague and anarchy behind. John Cabal (Raymond Massey) belongs to the rational state that rises from the wreckage, and William Cameron Menzies, working from H. G. Wells's script, builds its cities and machines across a century. The film puts one plain question to its characters: whether people will let knowledge lead them, or fear.
