Thirst

(1949)Directed by Ingmar Bergman85 minDrama

In the years after the war, Rut (Eva Henning) and Bertil (Birger Malmsten) ride a train through Europe, a marriage already coming apart in the compartment. Ingmar Bergman breaks the journey into memories, among them Viola (Birgit Tengroth) and Dr. Rosengren (Hasse Ekman), each tied to some earlier want. Rut sits at the window beside her husband, the train carrying them on through postwar Europe.
