Ted Lawson (Van Johnson) signs on anyway, leaving his expectant wife behind, and trains under Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle (Spencer Tracy) alongside David Thatcher (Robert Walker) and the rest of the crew. Mervyn LeRoy stages it as plain, practical work, the men learning one narrow thing until it is all they know.
