This Property Is Condemned

“Call her what you want. Do with her what you will. But remember...”

A stranger from the railroad arrives in Dodson, Mississippi, with orders to close the line that keeps the whole town alive. Owen Legate (Robert Redford) was sent to cut Dodson loose, and he finds himself drawn to Alva Starr (Natalie Wood), the town's flirt and its main attraction. Sydney Pollack sets their romance against the same clock, since every day Owen stays is a day nearer the end of the only living Dodson has.
