“Nature finds a way.”

Hannah Faber (Angelina Jolie) is a smokejumper stationed in a Montana fire tower, still carrying a failure from a previous season. Connor Casserly (Finn Little) is a boy who has seen his father murdered and now has two assassins, Patrick (Nicholas Hoult) and Jack Blackwell (Aidan Gillen), on his trail through the wilderness. Taylor Sheridan lets a forest fire close in around them, so the pressure comes from the flames as much as the men chasing the boy.
