Three Daughters
Three stories by Rabindranath Tagore hang on three very different girls and women. A young orphan learns to read and write from the postmaster in her care, and in another tale a wife can think of nothing but the jewels her husband keeps buying her. Satyajit Ray gives each story its own small world, from village post office to haunted house, and joins them only through the women at their centers.
