Through a Glass Darkly

Karin (Harriet Andersson) comes home from a stay in a mental hospital to spend the summer at her family's cottage on a small island. Her husband Martin (Max von Sydow) looks after her but is worn down by how far she has pulled away from him, while her father David (Gunnar Björnstrand) stays distant and her young brother Minus watches her closely. Bergman puts the four of them together on that island, where Karin's visions are getting worse and no one can reach her.
