A young woman is shot dead in the docklands of Cardiff, and the only witness is Gillie (Hayley Mills), a street kid who takes the killer's black revolver and runs. When Superintendent Graham (John Mills) works out who has it, she feeds him one lie after another to keep him off the trail. J. Lee Thompson's film is about a child deciding who deserves her loyalty, and what she will give up to protect him.
