Ben Wilson (Jeff Daniels), a widowed father, wants to finish fixing up the country inn he has bought for himself and his young daughter Hillary (Ariana Richards). Then a group of odd, well-dressed tourists checks in early, and Ben learns they are disaster junkies from the future who travel back to watch history's worst catastrophes. David Twohy builds the story on one plain idea: the people who come to look on never think of themselves as part of it.
