“Aura would like you to know that she is having a very, very hard time.”

The summer after film school, Aura (Lena Dunham) moves back into her mother's apartment in New York, where her mother Siri (Laurie Simmons) photographs and her sister Nadine (Cyrus Dunham) has just finished high school. She takes a restaurant job and chases two men, a chef named Keith and an Internet personality named Jed, with little to show for either. Dunham films the rooms of that apartment close and plain, three women passing each other in the hallway.
