Why would a woman book passage to America with her two children and never tell her husband? Julia Sturges (Barbara Stanwyck) has decided to leave him aboard the Titanic's maiden voyage in April 1912, and Richard (Clifton Webb) buys a ticket on the same ship to claim custody. Jean Negulesco keeps the two of them in close quarters, an estranged couple still sharing the same rooms and the same children.
