To Have and Have Not

(1945)Directed by Howard Hawks100 minAdventure, Romance, War
“TALK ABOUT T.N.T! THIS is IT!”

Martinique in the early years of the war, under Vichy rule, where Harry Morgan (Humphrey Bogart) rents out his fishing boat to whoever pays. A drifter named Marie Browning (Lauren Bacall) turns up in the hotel bar, and the French resistance starts leaning on him for help. Howard Hawks keeps most of the film indoors, in the hotel and its smoky bar, and lets Bogart and Bacall trade lines across a room.
