“When Harry comes to town, he brings good times, bad times… And a lot of trouble!”

Harry (Danny Glover) turns up at the door of an old friend, Gideon (Paul Butler), in South-Central Los Angeles, a drifter from the South with no word of when he means to leave. Gideon and Suzie (Mary Alice) take him in, and their sons Junior (Carl Lumbly) and Samuel, called Baby Brother (Richard Brooks), find him already settled at the table. Charles Burnett lets the visit stretch out, and the family's peace is the thing riding on how long Harry stays.
