In 1970s England, John Verney (Richard Widmark), an American writer who studies the occult, is asked to look after a teenage girl named Catherine (Nastassja Kinski). She has been marked for a Satanic cult run by Father Michael (Christopher Lee), a priest who was excommunicated. Peter Sykes directs this Hammer horror, and Verney finds himself the only person standing between the girl and the man who raised her toward a purpose.
