Tokyo Chorus
Tokyo in the early Shōwa years is short of work, and Shinji Okajima (Tokihiko Okada), a young insurance clerk, loses his job after standing up for an older colleague. Yasujirō Ozu follows him through the Depression as he tries to keep his wife, Sugako (Emiko Yagumo), and their children fed. Underneath the comedy is a plain question of what a man owes the people who depend on his wages.
