Winfried (Peter Simonischek) is convinced his daughter has forgotten how to laugh, so he turns up unannounced where she lives abroad and keeps at her with jokes. Ines (Sandra Hüller) is a career-focused business executive, and she has no room in her schedule for a father who won't leave. Maren Ade sets the two of them side by side, a daughter who wants him gone and a father who wants her back.
