Mel Sampson (John Hawkes) is a private investigator in Los Angeles with a name to find: a missing woman from his own past. His search takes him through the city's strip clubs and its small-time drug dealers, and Dennis Hauck shot it on 35 mm Techniscope in five takes, each one twenty minutes with no cut. Hawkes walks on through the strip club doorways and out into the street, the same unbroken take following him.
