“They're Dancing Cheek-To-Cheek Again!”

A mistaken identity sets it going: Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers) storms upstairs to complain about the tap dancing over her London hotel room, then takes the dancer, Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire), for someone else entirely. Mark Sandrich keeps the scenes moving from hotel suite to dance floor. Jerry is in town to open a show for Horace Hardwick (Edward Everett Horton), and every attempt to win Dale only makes the confusion harder to clear up.
