George (Cary Grant) and Marion Kerby (Constance Bennett) die in a car accident and come back as ghosts, set on loosening up their friend Cosmo Topper (Roland Young), a bank president who keeps his life in strict order. Norman Z. McLeod follows the couple as they drag Topper out of his routine, which puts a strain on his stuffy wife (Billie Burke). Topper's wife stands in her good clothes, a man in a bank president's suit beside her.
