Trans-Europ-Express

“Erotic? Serious? Funny? Tragic? A Mystery? A Game? A Paradox? Neo-Sadism? A Detective Story?”

Three people board the Trans-Europ-Express in Paris, bound for Antwerp: a producer, a director and an assistant. Somewhere along the route they start inventing a film about a cocaine smuggler on the same train, and Elias (Jean-Louis Trintignant) steps into the story as he is being described. Robbe-Grillet cuts between the three of them talking and the film they are making up, so that you can't tell where one ends and the other starts.
