Charles Tuttle (Jeff Daniels) is a lawyer about to marry his boss's daughter, sent to a small Nevada town to file a continuance. His actor friend Richard Rietti (Michael Richards) arrives to throw him a bachelor party, and Charles is too hung-over to make the hearing, so Richard walks into the courtroom in his place. Jonathan Lynn builds the comedy on a simple idea, that a man can get far in a room full of strangers if he sounds sure of himself.
