“MASTER-CRIMINAL! SUPER-SPY! AND ALL TRUE!”

Safecracker Eddie Chapman (Christopher Plummer) is sitting out a prison term on the island of Jersey when the German army arrives. He talks his way into the Nazis' service as a spy against Britain, with Colonel Steinhager (Gert Fröbe) watching him. Terence Young follows him through a double life, and the last thing the film leaves us with is Chapman himself, calm and quick-eyed, carrying a secret in each hand.
