“An innocent man has only 12 hours to live...”

A San Quentin inmate is due to die at midnight, and one reporter has just realized the man is innocent. That reporter is Steve Everett (Clint Eastwood), a drinker and a chaser with a long list of failures behind him, directing himself in a story he has only hours to untangle. Frank Beechum (Isaiah Washington) may be innocent, and the film is about how little a man's past counts when a clock is running.
