Detroit, and Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) spends his birthday at a Elvis-loving comic shop and a kung fu triple bill, where he meets Alabama Whitman (Patricia Arquette), a call girl hired as a gift. They marry within days, and Clarence takes a suitcase of cocaine from her pimp, Drexl Spivey (Gary Oldman), planning to sell it in Hollywood. Tony Scott sends them west with the Mafia behind them, and Clarence has no plan beyond keeping her.
