Preston Tucker (Jeff Bridges) is an engineer in Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1945, and he has a design for the car of the future in his head. With his wife Vera (Joan Allen) and his partner Abe (Martin Landau) beside him, he sets out to build it against the Detroit tycoons who already own the road. Francis Ford Coppola tracks one man's belief in his own idea, and what's at risk is everything he has put into it.
