James Cole (Bruce Willis) is a convict in a ravaged future sent back in time to stop the virus that killed billions. He arrives in 1990 confused and fractured, hunted by authorities. As he searches for clues, he finds an unlikely ally in psychiatrist Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe), and what begins as her skepticism toward his warnings becomes a bond neither of them can walk away from.
