“The Star of Stars in the Hit of Hits!”

Oscar Jaffe (John Barrymore), a Broadway producer with a flair for tantrums, wants his next hit and the actress who made him one. That actress is Lily Garland (Carole Lombard), born Mildred Plotka, whom he trained from an untutored beginner into a star who now has her own mind. Howard Hawks sets much of it aboard the 20th Century Limited, Chicago to New York, with Jaffe pacing the narrow corridors of the train.
