“Everybody wants to be somebody.”

Alan Darcy (Bob Hoskins) is a lonely man in a working-class English town, where the local lads have nothing to do but hang around in rival gangs. He sets up a boxing club and tries to bring the gangs under one roof, with Tim (Danny Nussbaum) among those drawn in. Shane Meadows shoots it in grainy black and white, and the whole thing rests on whether one man's club can hold a neighbourhood together.
