Twice Born

“A story of love. A story of war. A story of life.”

Gemma (Penélope Cruz) is a mother who takes her teenage son back to Sarajevo, the city where his father died in the Bosnian conflict years ago. Sergio Castellitto, adapting Margaret Mazzantini's novel, moves between that visit and the earlier time she spent there, when she met Diego (Emile Hirsch) during the siege. What passed between those two people is the film's real subject, and the boy is the only one who cannot remember it.
